Homeschooling Area #3

There are many reasons why homeschooling should be made illegal in the US. One important reason is that it will be very hard for homeschooled teens to find a sports program to go into. Sports Teams help kids make friends and learn team work. Without having the opportunity to join a team, kids are not learning how to work on a team is (a skill needed in many careers). Team building is a very important skill in sports and you don't get it from a book or your brother. You need more people that are a little outside your comfort zone in order to really have good team building skills. Home schooled children don't get such an opportunity , and so it would be hard to play sports such as football in high school. the time they are in high school, there will be hardly any sports leagues that are not school teams. If they want to continue a sports career in high school, they will have to go into travel sports which can be expensive and time consuming. Plus, the student would have to be good in order to make the team. “School builds community. They should only be for students who attend classes” (SIRS Discoverer 1)

Homeschooled children should not be allowed to play on their local school’s sports teams because it would not be fair to the students who attend the school. If a homeschooled student makes the team that takes one spot off the team; one spot that a kid who goes to that school probobly wants. If a home schooled child makes the last spot on the baseball team, it isn't fair. Why should they get to join the team without the academics that come with school? Since parents are in comtrol, they can just re arrange their schedule, and don't even need to do work if they have an extened practice and a game. For example, if a student attending the school is on the school basketball team and he is doing poorly academically he will be suspended until he gets his grades up. If a homeschooled child is getting bad grades then he will probably get away with it because Mommy won't want to pull their kid off of the team. Another example is that if a boy who attends the school misbehaves he will probably get kicked off the team and get detention or suspension; if a homeschooled child misbehaves, he would probably be grounded but not kicked off the team.
